Police CPI & Disabled Motoring UK announce strategic partnership to drive excellence in accessible parking

Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (Police CPI) and Disabled Motoring UK (DMUK) are proud to announce a new strategic partnership aimed at enhancing and expanding the Safer Parking Accessible accreditations.

Since its inception by DMUK in 2014 as the Disabled Parking Accreditation, the scheme has seen significant evolution. After receiving operational support from the British Parking Association (BPA) in 2016, the accreditation has grown to include 1,300 car parks across the United Kingdom. This new transition to Police CPI marks a pivotal moment in the scheme's maturity, providing the enhanced operational management necessary for its next phase of growth.

The Safer Parking Accessible accreditation remains the only police-backed safety and accessibility benchmark of its kind. It has become an integral component of planning and tender requirements for new car park developments, ensuring that inclusion is ‘built-in’ from the ground up.

By joining forces, Police CPI and DMUK will provide:

  • Enhanced operational management: Leveraging Police CPI’s expertise in crime prevention and security standards
  • Strategic growth: Expanding the footprint of accredited sites to ensure consistent national coverage
  • Enhanced user focus: A renewed momentum behind the services that matter most to motorists with disabilities, including ease of use, safety and site maintenance

The partnership ensures that the accreditation remains rigorous and relevant. As the scheme continues to develop, both organisations are dedicated to ensuring that the Police-backed seal of approval provides peace of mind to users, signalling that a facility is not only accessible but meets stringent safety criteria.
