Safer Parking Accessible incorporates two past schemes - The Disabled Parking Accreditation (DPA) and People's Parking Award. Safer Parking Accessible took these standards and raised them further to now be the UK's industry benchmark for accessible and inclusive parking facilities.
If your car park has made strides towards becoming more accessible and you would like to share this with the public, or you are interested in learning about how to become more accessible, get in touch with us and become accredited.
Safer Parking Accessible assessment criteria includes:
- Essential:
- Accessible bay quantities – in line with IstructE guidelines
- Size of bays
- Clear and correct bay demarcation
- Clear wayfinding/signage
- Accessible payment options
- Safety/security and lighting
- Cleanliness
- Desirable:
- Shopmobility (onsite or nearby)
- Accessible toilets/changing places
Safer Parking Accessible EV sites must also meet Safer Parking Accessible standards, meaning that in order for chargepoints to be accredited, the entire car park must also be accessible.
Where accessible EV charging facilities are supplied, a number of essential criteria derived from the BSI accessibility standard PAS 1899 guidelines must be met for the site to pass the Safer Parking Accessible EV accreditation. This checklist is robust but broadly includes:
- Signage and wayfinding
- Accessibility to charger (Area around the charger)
- Screen Height
- Charger Height
- Cable management and Connector
